Kings County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 1199

Team

Law Enforcement Exploring is a division of the Boy Scouts of America that give you hands-on look at that a career in law enforcement is really like. The Kings County Sheriff's Office has supported an active Explorer Post Program for young persons between the ages of 14 and 21 for over sixteen years.

  • Community Service

    Explorers serve the community in various ways such as directing traffic at special events, crime prevention programs and light security details.
  • Ride-Along's

    Once you become eligible, you can participate in the ride-along program. you become an extra set of eyes and ears for the officers and assist them on various calls.
  • Meetings

    The Post meets one Saturday and two Wednesday's of each month and depending on upcoming events possibly a few more.
  • Career Enhancement

    Participating in a Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a great start to your law enforcement career!

How to become a Law Enforcement Explorer

Explorer Post 1199 is allotted up to 15 positions which are usually fully occupied.  To contribute your time and skill to your community you may be placed on a waiting list for the next available opening.  Please contact the Explorer Program Coordinator, Chief Civil Deputy Lydia Montoya, Mon-Fri 8:00 am – 5:00 pm at (559)852-2796.
  • Maintain a 2.0 grade point average
  • Have good moral character
  • Have no major criminal record
  • Obtain your parents permission
  • Contact the Explorer Coordinator to be placed on a waiting list.
  • Participate in an oral interview as scheduled
  • Submit your completed background paperwork

Explorer Competitions

The Kings County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 1199 attends two competitions each year. The Central Coast Law Enforcement Explorer Competition in Paso Robles, CA in September and the Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer competition in March. Each competition is a 3 day event. There are over 40 Explorer posts are competing in many different events. Each post will participate in Scenarios such as:

  • First Aid
  • Employment Interviews
  • Hostage Negotiation
  • Domestic Violence
  • Building Search
  • Physical Fitness
